University Donation Program

Applications are no longer being accepted for 2009.

ILX LIGHTWAVE'S UNIVERSITY DONATION PROGRAM

State-of-the-art equipment is necessary to keep any program on the cutting edge. Thats why ILX Lightwave started the University Donation Program. We want to help colleges and universities create quality programs where the next generation of scientists and engineers can remain at the forefront of photonic research and development. Through the donation of $20,000 of laser diode test and measurement equipment annually, ILX Lightwave is helping arm the nations colleges and universities with the state-of-the-art laser diode technology they need to keep their photonics programs on the cutting edge.

Who Can Apply

Any accredited US college or university is eligible to apply for the $10,000 equipment award. We make a conscious attempt to balance requests from both large and small colleges, as well as look for opportunities to build programs and working partnerships with colleges throughout the country.

When to Apply

Up to two awards of $10,000 in ILX equipment will be presented in the month January. Award applications must be received by ILX before August 31, 2009.

How to Apply

Applications for ILX Lightwaves University Donation Program should include the following materials:
  1. Proposal Cover Letter
    This must be completed and signed by the Principal Investigator or Program Coordinator and attached to the proposal.

  2. Technical Proposal
    The proposal should be no more than two pages in length and include the following information:

    1. Executive Summary
      A short summary statement should outline the objective(s) of the research or application of the equipment and how ILX instrumentation will address those needs.

    2. Abstract
      An abstract of the proposed research or application of the instrumentation should include goals, objectives, and methodology to be used.

    3. Schedule
      A schedule should cover the proposed starting and ending dates and when the awarded instrumentation is required.

    4. Equipment Needs
      A list of specified instrumentation, manufactured only by ILX Lightwave, need to accomplish the proposed goals. Products released within the last year are not available for donation. Note: ILX Lightwave does not manufacture laser diodes.

  3. Background Information
    Include any background information or brochures that support the scope and quality of the university's photonics-related programs.

Judging Criteria

Recipients are chosen based on the quality of the university's photonics educational program and the relevance of the proposed research to the future of laser diode technology and applications.
